Where to stay in Abu Dhabi: Yas Island, Saadiyat Island or the Corniche?
Plan your Abu Dhabi holiday
Choose Yas Island if your holiday revolves around attractions and events, Saadiyat Island for wellbeing, relaxation and beachfront luxury, or the Corniche for city life with beach and sea-view options. The right choice depends on how you want to spend your days—not simply which hotel looks best in a photograph.
Abu Dhabi offers very different holiday experiences within the same destination. Decide what you want close at hand, then choose the hotel that suits your party, pace and budget.
Compare the three areas
Yas Island
Families, couples, attractions and island events
Consider: Exact hotel location, transport arrangements and any ticket inclusions
Saadiyat Island
Wellbeing, peace, relaxation and beachfront luxury
Consider: Beach access, meal arrangements and journeys to attractions elsewhere
The Corniche
City exploring, beach stays and sea-view hotels
Consider: Whether the hotel has direct beach access or requires a walk or transfer
These are starting points, not restrictions: couples can enjoy Yas, families can enjoy Saadiyat, and a Corniche stay can include both islands.
Yas Island: family adventures and lively holidays for couples

We recommend Yas Island for both families and couples. For families, one of our first choices is The WB Abu Dhabi, Curio Collection by Hilton. For couples, Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island is a particular favourite of ours. We like its Yas Bay location for restaurants and evenings out, with Yas Mall accessible using the complimentary island shuttle.
The WB hotel currently advertises theme park access with stays. Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island also advertises one Yas Island theme park visit per registered guest for each night stayed. Compare these inclusions before purchasing additional tickets. We recommend looking at hotel-and-park packages or a multi-park pass when planning several attraction days; the best value depends on the parks you intend to visit and what your hotel already includes. We can confirm the inclusions for your chosen dates and package.
For beach time, Yas Island’s official website currently lists Yas Bay East Beach access as included for Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island guests. Confirm the exact beach or beach-club benefit with your booking, as these are not necessarily interchangeable. The complimentary Yas Express makes getting around easier; check the current route and timetable before planning a day around it. Yas Bay East Beach · Yas Express.
The trade-off: if your main aim is a quiet beach retreat with only occasional sightseeing, compare Saadiyat before committing to an attraction-led stay. For a Grand Prix trip, consider your ticket, entrance and transfers alongside the hotel: a Yas Island address does not automatically put every event within walking distance.
Saadiyat Island: wellbeing, relaxation and beachfront luxury

Saadiyat is our choice when the holiday is about wellbeing, peace and time to unwind in luxurious surroundings. Think unhurried beach days, a spa treatment and the freedom to do very little. We particularly enjoy the island’s natural character, including the chance to spot wild gazelles.
Our shortlist includes The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort for a luxury beach escape and Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island when an all-inclusive resort is the priority. We would compare the feel of each property as carefully as its facilities: wellbeing can mean quiet mornings for one traveller and an active day followed by a relaxed dinner for another. Families can also find their balance here; a relaxing holiday need not be adults-only.
Saadiyat’s beaches are also nesting habitat for hawksbill turtles, with conservation measures helping protect them. We suggest letting your hotel know you are interested in its wildlife and conservation activities. Ask what staff-led opportunities or updates are available during your stay, and follow their guidance around protected areas. Sightings are never guaranteed; a hotel notification or turtle encounter should not be treated as a standard inclusion. Learn about Saadiyat’s wildlife.
Beach days need not mean missing the cultural side of Abu Dhabi. We recommend making time for Louvre Abu Dhabi, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. Choose the experiences that interest your party rather than trying to fit all three into one day. Explore Abu Dhabi’s museums · teamLab Phenomena.
The trade-off: Saadiyat suits a slower stay, but several days of Yas Island attractions will mean planning journeys between the areas. Compare room arrangements, dining inclusions and the balance of beach time and outings before choosing a resort.
The Corniche: everyday Abu Dhabi and evenings by the waterfront

We see the Corniche as the heartbeat of the city. We recommend it for travellers who want to explore local life alongside the major sights: shops, independent restaurants, a wide choice of cuisines and a waterfront that becomes especially appealing in the evening.
Allow time simply to wander, stop for something to eat and enjoy the parks. We also suggest a bike ride along the waterfront, particularly when the weather is comfortable for being outdoors.
For a food-focused outing, head to Mina Zayed’s fish market, in the port area beyond the Corniche. We recommend choosing your seafood and asking about having it cleaned, seasoned and cooked at one of the market’s food outlets. Confirm the preparation arrangements and charges before buying. Find Mina Market.
For a different perspective, we recommend afternoon tea at Observation Deck at 300, at Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers. Book ahead and leave time to enjoy the views. Read our Observation Deck guide. We can help you include this experience in your holiday plans.
Choosing your hotel: a city stay can still be a beach holiday. The Corniche and its western waterfront offer beach hotels and sea-view accommodation, so you can combine exploring, restaurants and time by the water. We can help distinguish hotels with their own beach facilities from properties overlooking the sea or close to the public beach. Room categories matter too: confirm a sea view rather than assuming every room has one.
Should you stay in one area or split your holiday?
For a shorter trip, start by considering one base and planned outings. For a longer holiday with distinct attraction and beach phases, compare a split stay. The balance depends on your arrival and departure times, luggage, travelling party and how much you value an uninterrupted stay.
Avoid building a tightly timed itinerary around a single quoted journey time. Exact hotel locations, traffic and event arrangements all matter. We can help connect the accommodation with the wider travel plan.
How we would shape your stay
For a first visit: choose the area that matches the largest part of your itinerary. If you want restaurants, local exploring and a beach or sea view, start with the Corniche. If most days will revolve around parks and Yas Bay, start with Yas. If the hotel and beach are the holiday, start with Saadiyat.
For families: compare room layout, meal arrangements and attraction tickets together. Connecting rooms, an early dinner and a straightforward journey back to the hotel can matter more than an extra facility you may never use. Leave breathing space between busy attraction days.
For couples: decide whether you prefer evenings out or a quieter resort routine. Yas Bay offers an appealing base for dining and entertainment; Saadiyat suits a slower pace; the Corniche combines exploring with waterfront time. None of these choices limits you to one type of holiday.
For Grand Prix guests: we recommend starting with Yas Island’s excellent hotel choices if staying close to the action is your priority. If you are more budget-conscious and happy to travel by taxi, we can also look at selected city and midtown hotels away from Yas Island. Depending on your dates and availability, these can offer substantial accommodation savings, leaving more of your budget for race tickets and the rest of your holiday.
We compare the exact hotel location and likely transport costs alongside the room rate. Some alternatives may involve a manageable taxi journey, but race-weekend traffic, road restrictions and your circuit entrance can make transfers longer than usual. We will help you assess that balance rather than treating every city hotel as equally convenient.
We can bring together your hotel, flights, race-ticket requirements and transport arrangements around your budget. A few quieter nights afterwards can also turn the race weekend into a more rounded holiday.
Ask us about a bespoke Abu Dhabi Grand Prix package
For a longer stay: a few nights on Yas followed by time on Saadiyat is one possible combination. Alternatively, keep one hotel throughout and arrange selected outings. We would weigh the benefit of changing surroundings against the time spent packing, transferring and checking in again.
What is next for Abu Dhabi? Disney and the destination’s continuing growth
Abu Dhabi continues to develop its appeal for both family holidays and cultural breaks. Disney and Miral have announced a Disney theme park resort on Yas Island, with plans for themed accommodation, entertainment, dining and shopping. It is a future development, not an attraction you can currently include in a holiday itinerary. The official information we checked does not establish a confirmed opening date or confirm that physical construction has begun. Read Disney’s announcement.
For travellers, the significance is the continuing investment in Yas Island as a destination in its own right. Our advice is to plan your next holiday around experiences already available, then use confirmed announcements to inspire a future return. We would not choose travel dates or promise Disney access on the basis of an estimated opening.
Saadiyat’s growth is already giving visitors more to do between beach days. Alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena broaden the choice of outings. These existing experiences should be distinguished from future projects when deciding what to include in your stay.
A few details worth getting right
A waterfront location, a sea-view room and included beach access describe different benefits. We check these separately, alongside meal plans, attraction tickets and transport. For outdoor exploring, leave flexibility for the weather and your travelling party’s pace; balance time outside with museums, dining or a break at the hotel.
We also suggest leaving an evening unplanned. A relaxed meal, a waterfront walk or a small restaurant you discover along the way can be as memorable as a major attraction. The aim is a holiday with room to enjoy Abu Dhabi, rather than a timetable that fills every hour.
